Haig Berberian has guided Specialty Food Solutions (SFS) as founder and CEO since 2008, providing insight into direct food industry perishable sales from small boutique retail stores to Fortune 100 companies. Known for his commitment to excellence and collaborative approach, Haig has cultivated strong relationships with nearly every profession in the culinary industry, from owners to executive chefs to broad liners and all roles between. His ability to drive growth and deliver exceptional results has been at the heart of Specialty Food Solutions’ brand.
With more than 40 years in the food sales industry, Berberian combines his entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for quality and flavor to create unmatched products and experiences for a diversified client base. His insights—including hands-on experience in food sales, finance, marketing, distribution, logistics and production—have helped establish Specialty Food Solutions as a reliable partner and resource in the food and beverage space.
Growing up in New Jersey, surrounded by a family deeply rooted in the food industry, Berberian developed an appreciation for the culinary world at an early age. His journey began as a kid working every Saturday at his father’s butcher shop, where he learned the ins and outs of meat cutting, customer service and the importance of quality. Starting at 9 years old, he spent his childhood helping his parents run their food distribution business, where he gained firsthand experience sourcing premium products from across the country. He developed a deep respect for craftsmanship, hard work and the relationships that drive the food industry. This early exposure laid the foundation for his entrepreneurial journey and commitment to delivering exceptional food products.
Today, Berberian is affectionately known as the "Sausage King of the Carolinas," a title earned through the remarkable success of his Cooper River Farm brand sausage. With a dedication to quality and flavor, he has built a reputation for producing some of the finest sausages in the region, earning the loyalty of chefs, retailers, and consumers alike.
Berberian is the proud owner and operator of two thriving businesses—United Custom Foods and Specialty Food Solutions—based in the Carolinas. Through these ventures, he continues to innovate and expand his reach in the food industry, leveraging his decades of experience and deep knowledge of food sourcing and distribution.
Beyond business, Berberian is a staunch supporter of fellow entrepreneurs. He is a founding board member of the Entrepreneur's Organization (EO) Charleston Chapter, a past chapter president, and a sitting board member. Berberian attended the University of Massachusetts Lowell and has served in leadership positions with industry-related ventures throughout his career.
When he’s not overseeing his businesses, Berberian enjoys life in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, where he resides with his wife. He is also a proud father of three grown children.
